Overview
The World Soy Foundation (WSF) was formed in 2006 by the Board of Directors of the World Initiative for Soy in Human Health (WISHH), a program of the American Soybean Association. The World Soy Foundation, a 501 c3 corporation, is strictly humanitarian in their work and not oriented to market development.
Our Mission
We develop strategic partnerships with donors and implementers by funding programs that use soy to reduce malnutrition worldwide.
Our Vision
The leading foundation that develops sustainable solutions through soybean-based nutrition to build healthy, peaceful, thriving communities worldwide.
Our Values
- We work with organizations that distribute food directly and we distribute information directly to all.
- We believe that soy is an optimal protein because it is low cost and can be mixed with indigenous products.
- We believe that we are all citizens of the world.
- We believe that everyone benefits from a world where all people are well nourished.
Case Statement
Today, according to a recent report published by the United Nations’ Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), world hunger is projected to reach a historic high, with 1.02 billion people — one sixth of humanity — going hungry every day. The FAO reports that the current world economic crisis, with its rising unemployment and lower incomes, has reduced access to food by the poor.
The World Soy Foundation (WSF) is a charitable organization dedicated to helping relieve hunger and malnutrition in the world today by funding, supporting and helping to coordinate programs that recognize the importance of the use of soybeans in developing sustainable food solutions.
Fund raising is a key role of the WSF, and its current outreach program is touching many of the world’s largest corporations, and in particular, those with knowledge and interests in food and agricultural production and processing. Farmer support has been, and continues to be, strong, as demonstrated by the success of the on going “Acre Challenge” program in which a farmer donates the proceeds from the sale of an acre’s production of soybeans to the Foundation. In addition, many individuals from around the world have already become contributors, with fundraising programs now being developed to expand this effort.
The WSF works collaboratively with other leading non-governmental organizations (NGOs) as well as various governments and their agencies, to leverage key assets and learning’s of all of the involved parties to create efficient and effective programs.
The program managers contracted by the WSF are experienced in project development and have managed projects worldwide with considerable success. In addition, the WSF’s advisory panel will consist of experts from a range of disciplines, including agriculture, nutrition, food and feed processing, hunger alleviation, foreign policy and sustainable development.
The WSF’s roots lie deep in agriculture, as it was created by the American Soybean Association and its World Initiative for Soy in Human Health (WISHH) program, to act as an independent foundation to help play an expansive role in hunger eradication.
During the next 3 to 5 years, the WSF’s goals include raising $3 to $5 million in contributions from a variety of sources and to helping to make a significant impact on thousands of men, women and children worldwide. It will do this by supporting programs that improve the nutritional wellbeing of communities with education and food and that focus on regional agricultural production and/or processing as a cornerstone of community development.
