World Soy Foundation Offers Expertise On School Lunch Programs

July 2, 2009...Source: ASA Leader Letter...Executive Director of the American Soybean Association’s World Soy Foundation (WSF) Jim Hershey was in Decatur, Ill. on July 1, on invitation by Howard Buffett of the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, to discuss the concept of school feeding programs.

The Buffett Foundation supports activities with a number of organizations fighting hunger around the world, including the World Food Programme and Catholic Relief Services. Buffett, a corn and soybean farmer from Illinois, also asked the World Food Programme to participate in the meeting.

Buffet is gathering information on best practices with the objective of improving children's nutrition around the world. WSF is well suited to work with U.S. foundationsand private voluntary organizations that deliver services such as school lunch programs around the world, and is currently engaged in similar projects in both Latin America and Africa.
